The Vet Camp program, now in its third year, welcomed students to the St. Kitts campus for two, one-week sessions in July to introduce them to the Rossie experience. Students shadowed lectures, labs and connected with current doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) students to learn about the island of St. Kitts and vet student life. This year, attendees participated in various hands-on activities such as clinical skills and anatomy labs, a pathology exercise and observed a clinical communications lab.
“I really like the feeling of family that the students and the professors provide. Ross is a big family and you feel great being there,” said Vet Camp student Cristina Valenzuela from Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. “Vet camp is a unique experience if you want become a veterinarian,” she said.
Campers sat down with current Ross students and faculty to learn more about the DVM postgraduate (master’s and PhD) programs and research opportunities at Ross. Along with a tour of campus and research facilities, the students also had the opportunity to go on a tour of St. Kitts and visit cultural heritage sites such as Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to showcase our campus and professors to this year’s Vet Camp attendees,” said Dr. Erika Little, assistant professor of clinical sciences,” I am glad we can provide the opportunity for interested undergraduate students to experience the school and program offerings first-hand.”
