RELAY FOR LIFE: RUSVM Supports the Fight Against Cancer

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) was proud to be a sponsor for the Rutgers University Relay For Life event, held recently in Piscataway, New Jersey.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement brings together communities to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight. During these overnight fundraising walks, teams of people camp out around a track and take turns walking around it through the night to symbolize the reality that “cancer never sleeps.”

As an event sponsor, RUSVM representatives engaged with students and participants interested in studying to become a veterinarian, sharing information on veterinary school and careers opportunities in the field.

The fundraising efforts from the event totaled more than $80,000 for the American Cancer Society. The funds will go to cancer research and support programs for cancer patients.

A Commitment to Giving Back

RUSVM has a history of community involvement and is committed to giving back through health programs, volunteer projects, and other initiatives. This past October, RUSVM supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink, hosting educational seminars, and sharing inspirational stories.

In addition, students use their veterinary skills and background to volunteer through organizations like Vets for Change South Africa, a One-Health oriented group that works to improve both human and animal welfare through community education and veterinary healthcare.
