Oct 30, 2016

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) has appointed Dr. Sean Callanan as dean. He has over 25 years of experience in research and veterinary education.

Dr. Callanan earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University College Dublin, and while at the University of Glasgow, he focused his doctorate studies on infectious diseases and pathology. He holds a double accreditation in veterinary pathology, as a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists. Callanan has extensive international experience within the veterinary profession, including serving as president of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists.

“Dr. Callanan’s passion for the Ross mission, his work and reputation as a member of the profession, and his vision for advancing the school makes him the best choice to lead the institution forward,” said Steve Riehs, group president of medical, professional and online education at DeVry Education Group.

Since joining RUSVM in 2013, Callanan has served as professor of veterinary pathology, director of postgraduate studies and inaugural director of the university’s Center for Integrative Mammalian Research.

“I am both honored and humbled to serve our RUSVM students, colleagues and alumni, and look forward to keeping our school at the forefront of veterinary education,” Callanan said.
