Fortune Sithole graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Zimbabwe, Faculty of Veterinary Science in 1997. He went on to do a swine health residency program at the same institution till 2001 when he enrolled for an MSc in Epidemiology and Animal Health Economics at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. In 2005 he completed a PhD program in veterinary epidemiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Canada.
Upon completion of 2 post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Sydney (Australia) and the University of Alberta, School of Public Health in Canada, Fortune joined the Government of British Columbia in 2007 as an epidemiologist. His work involved supporting food safety policy making as well as other projects in public health. Fortune has taught veterinary public health and epidemiology at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and worked for the Government of Alberta (Canada) as a veterinary epidemiologist.
He has worked at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) where he was Associate Professor of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology as well as Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs. While at RUSVM he also led the development of an MSc program in One Health and was the inaugural chair of the Task Force for racial and social justice. Fortune served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine (Arizona) as well as Long Island University (New York). Fortune has recently returned to Ross University as Director of the Essential Veterinary Skills program and Assistant Dean for Competency based education.
