Gillian Carmichael Branford is an accomplished laboratory science professional with over two decades of progressive experience in medical technology, laboratory operations, and leadership. She currently serves as Lab Manager, where she leads operations, quality assurance, and team development.
Her career began in 2004 as a Medical Technologist at the Central Medical Laboratory, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in Guyana, where she also chaired the Quality Committee and contributed to the advancement of national laboratory standards. In 2007, she relocated to the Federation and joined the Alexandra Hospital in Nevis as a Medical Technologist. There she played a key role in developing and implementing SOPs, strengthening quality systems, and training new staff. Gillian joined RUSVM in 2013 as a Junior Laboratory Technician and rapidly advanced through roles of increasing responsibility—including Senior Laboratory Technician, Section Lead in Hematology and Special Diagnostics, and Quality Assurance/Control Officer. In 2022, she was appointed Interim Lab Manager and later promoted to Lab Manager, where she continues to lead operations and ensures excellence in diagnostic services.
Academically, Gillian holds an Associate of Science in Medical Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management with a concentration in Health Services Management, and a Master of Science in Project Management. Gillian is currently developing new laboratory tests in molecular diagnostics through a Master of Science in Research.
Gillian is deeply committed to community and personal development. She serves as a facilitator for leadership development workshops with Project Dignity SKN to support leadership development for at-risk teen girls. A Sunday school teacher at St. George’s Anglican Church, and is an active member and mentor within Toastmasters International.
