Shoaib Ashraf, BSc, DVM, MPhil, MSc, PhD
Dr. Shoaib Ashraf is a trained medical laboratory technologist and veterinarian-scientist with over 20 years of research experience in both veterinary and human health, with a focus on diagnostics & treatment (theranostics). He earned his BSc (MLT) from Punjab University, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and MPhil in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Pakistan. He then pursued an MS in Molecular Biology at the University of Skövde/Stockholm University in Sweden, followed by a PhD in Pharmacology/Parasitology from the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at McGill University in Canada.
Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Ashraf completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University, focusing on drug resistance against infectious diseases. He subsequently spent five years as a research fellow at the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he investigated Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy. Upon returning to Canada, he served as a lecturer in the Applied Biotechnology program at McGill University and later worked as a Research Associate in infectious diseases at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Dr. Ashraf’s overarching research goal is to combat infectious diseases (bacterial, parasitic, fungal and viral) through novel approaches. Students, postdoctoral fellows and other colleagues are most welcomed to get in touch for research opportunities and extended collaborations in the infectious disease realm.
Dr. Ashraf is currently an Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pathobiology Riphah International University. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, is an inventor on three pending patents, and has secured over $1.5 million in research funding through competitive international grants. He actively contributes to the scientific community as an editor and reviewer for multiple journals and has received numerous honors and awards in recognition of his contributions to science and education.
