WIVC2018 General Information

Venue Information

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) will once again be hosting the West Indies Veterinary Conference at the beautiful St. Kitts Marriot Resort, in St. Kitts, West Indies.

The conference lectures will be held in the Ballroom and Saba Room of the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. Follow the signs from the hotel lobby. The wet labs will be held at the RUSVM campus.

Transportation

Conference attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the airport. The St. Kitts Marriott Resort is located 4 miles from the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport. Estimated taxi fare is USD$20 one-way. Please note that the St. Kitts Marriott Resort does not provide a shuttle service to and from the airport.

Transport for the events associated with the WIVC will be provided, where needed, from the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. Departure will be 30 minutes before the advertised event start times and late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

Social Events

Your learning doesn’t have to stop with the Continuing Education sessions; the conference also gives you an opportunity to explore the rich culture of St. Kitts (and its sister island, Nevis). You will have the opportunity to partake in a number of social events. Optional day excursions can also be booked through the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

  • Early morning run/jog/walk (Sunday)

    Sunday 4th November, 6.00am-7.15am

    Early morning run/jog led by conference speaker and RUSVM alumnus Dr. Matt Brunke. Meet in the lobby of the Marriott Resort for a fun run/jog (5k) or walk (2k) on the Marriott Golf course. The 2k/5k course start at the Marriott clubhouse and should take around 45 minutes to complete. Limited to 50 attendees. Registration required.

  • Opening Cocktail Reception (Sunday)

    Kick start the conference with our informal meet and greet. Meet fellow colleagues, Ross grads, faculty, sponsors and speakers whilst enjoying Caribbean entertainment. Refreshments and light snacks provided.

  • Experiential Wellness Events (Monday-Wednesday)

    Banfield Pet HospitalContinuing our 2017 theme, the WIVC2018 program will include a number of events, designed to enhance wellness and wellbeing amongst our conference attendees and their guests. This program is generously supported by our sponsor Banfield Pet Hospital and is complimentary to all conference attendees and their guests.
     

    • Monday 5th November, 6.30am-7.30am - Cockleshell lawn/Marriott resort: Outdoor yoga led by a certified yoga teacher. Reap the benefits of yoga breathing and practice which is known to create vital energy in the body and mind. Water and yoga mats provided. Limited to 25 attendees. Registration required.

    • Tuesday 6th November, 2.00pm-4.00pm - Marriott resort, location TBC: Family painting class led by local artist Sue Woodard. Take home your own piece of Caribbean art and enjoy some family time. The class is open to families and suitable for children over 7 years of age (children must be accompanied by a guardian). Snacks and refreshments provided. Limited to 20 attendees. Registration required.

    • Wednesday 7th November, 6.30am-7.15am - Marriott resort, location TBC: Meditation session led by mindfulness experts, Drs. Bradtke and Artemiou. Discover the benefits of meditation and begin your journey into this mindfulness practice. Healthy drinks and refreshments provided. Limited to 40 attendees. Registration required.

  • Campus Tours (Monday)
    Monday 5th November/Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine Campus

    Campus tours: 4.00-5.30PM
    Included in Registration Fee.

    Discover the RUSVM campus, where our DVM students spend 7 semesters of preclinical training in a unique environment. Campus tours are also an opportunity for our alums to see how much the RUSVM campus has changed since their last visit! This year, we are proud to introduce our new Research and Pathology building as part of our campus tours. Attendees will go on small group tours with a guide from our campus community.

  • Alumni Reception (Monday)
    Monday 5th November

    Alumni Reception: 5.30-7.00PM - Spratnet restaurant

    RUSVM welcomes all our conference attendees to the alumni reception! Attendees will be able to mingle with colleagues or reconnect with fellow classmates at this well-known seaside venue. The Alumni Reception is also an opportunity to celebrate Ross classes ending in ‘3 and ‘8. Informal dinner (Spratnet-style!) and Caribbean entertainment will be provided.

  • Closing Event (Wednesday)
    Wednesday 7th November

    6PM-10PM: Reggae Beach Bar & Grill

    Enjoy a Caribbean-inspired dinner and entertainment in a beautiful seaside setting at this well-known St. Kitts’ establishment. A perfect opportunity to network with fellow conference attendees!

  • Catamaran/Snorkel Trip to Nevis (Thursday)
    Thursday 8th November

    9.30AM-4.00PM

    Set sail to beautiful neighboring island Nevis, stopping along the way to enjoy Caribbean snorkeling at its best. Lunch will be served on board, leaving plenty of time for beach time and relaxation in Nevis. This is a popular event and the perfect way to end the conference! Early registration is recommended.

Currency
Although the official unit of currency in St. Kitts and Nevis is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, the U.S. Dollar is widely accepted (approx. EC$2.70 to USD$1.00). credit cards are also accepted at many island hotspots (although there are limitations on cards other than Visa and MasterCard).

Getting to St. Kitts
Flights to the St. Kitts' Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport are available from Miami, New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Toronto, London and neighboring Caribbean islands.
