RUSVM Welcomes Class of 2020 at White Coat Ceremony | Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine

Apr 03, 2019

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine recently welcomed its newest students, the class of 2020 to their veterinary training. The ceremony marked each student’s entry into the profession, concluding a week of orientation.

Hon. Shawn Kenneth Richards, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, Sport and Culture for the Federation of Culture attended.

“I would like to congratulate and welcome the Class of 2020 to the island of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Hon. Richards. “The time you will spend here will likely be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life, made even more so by the environment of St. Kitts and cultural setting unique to the area. I hope your experience at Ross in St. Kitts will make you an adaptable and compassionate veterinarian who will be ready to face the professional world.”

President of the Student Chapter of American Veterinary Medical Association Julia Drube shared remarks, and a keynote address was given by Ross alumni Dr. Alexandra Adler.

One hundred and twenty three new students participated in the symbolic ceremony and recited the student oath acknowledging their professionalism and ethical values as key elements in becoming a veterinarian. Each student was presented with a white coat, the symbol of their entry into the veterinary profession by a member of Ross faculty.

Dr. Charles Wallace, associate dean of Student and Alumni Affairs at Ross, welcomed the new class to St. Kitts and encouraged the class to consider their role as veterinary students and future professionals.

“The ceremony provides an opportunity for faculty to welcome the first-year students into the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine’s family, and it allows students to recognize individuals who have provided them with support throughout their education,” said Wallace.  “It's the moment when students pledge themselves to service to animals and humanity.”
