After graduation from University of Liverpool in 2001, Dr. Fairs spent a year working for The Ministry of Agriculture in the UK working to eradicate an outbreak of Foot & Mouth Disease.
Dr. Fairs then worked for a variety of small animal practices in the UK, including two years at the largest emergency center in the country and seven years at The People’s Dispensary of Sick Animals (PDSA). The PDSA is a not-for-profit organization which operates 50 small animal hospitals across the UK and is commonly used by veterinary schools in the UK as a teaching resource.
Dr. Fairs joined RUSVM in 2014 as the director of Ross University Veterinary Clinic and in 2023 he transitioned into the Essential Veterinary Skills (EVS) Program.
In recent years, Dr. Fairs has been developing his interests in small animal dentistry and clinical skills acquisition, assessment, and feedback. These interests formed the basis of his MSc by Research thesis and associated publication, The Evaluation of a High-Fidelity Simulation Model and Video Instruction Used to Teach Canine Dental Skills to Pre-Clinical Veterinary Students (https://doi.org/10.3390/vetsci10080526).
As EVS Program Coordinator, Dr. Fairs has oversight of the foundational clinical skills acquisition over the first four semesters at RUSVM. Dr. Fairs also teaches the didactic course and skills labs for the small animal dentistry course in sixth and seventh semesters.
