Dr. Robert Gilbert received his veterinary education in South Africa at the University of Pretoria. He spent time in private practice and corporate practice before returning to the University for post-graduate study. He later completed a residency in theriogenology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before returning as a faculty member to the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort). From 1988 through 2016 he served on the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, where he also held various administrative positions. He joined RUSVM in 2016.

Research
Animal reproduction, especially diseases of the postpartum uterus, postpartum ovarian function, utero-ovarian communication, early embryo development. Now focused on health professions education.
