Dr. Andrea Peda, DVM, MSc, DABVP (SMP) is an Associate Professor of Shelter Medicine and Community Outreach at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and the Medical Director of the Basseterre Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) in St. Kitts. She has worked in academia for over 15 years, following prior experience in private clinical and shelter medicine practice.
Dr. Peda earned her Bachelor of Science degree from West Chester University in Pennsylvania, her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, and a Master of Science degree through the University of Florida’s online Graduate Shelter Medicine program. Most recently, she achieved Diplomate status through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Shelter Medicine Practice.
Dr. Peda’s work focuses on integrating evidence-based shelter medicine, population health, and high-quality spay/neuter programs into veterinary education while advancing community-based animal welfare initiatives. Her research interests include access to veterinary care, including community-based service models, infectious disease prevention, and outcomes assessment in experiential and service-learning veterinary education.
