The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) has appointed Dr. Sean Callanan, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine’s (Ross) Dean, to its leadership committee. Dr. Callanan will serve as member of the AAVMC Leadership Committee for the period from July 2017 to July 2020.
“I take great pride in representing Ross on the AAVMC Leadership Committee,” said Sean Callanan, dean at Ross. “As an alum of the AAVMC Leadership Academy, I have benefited from the training aimed at equipping veterinary professionals with the tools, knowledge and experience necessary to become leaders of academic veterinary medicine. Additionally, collaborations between academia and AAVMC is imperative for promoting excellence in veterinary medicine and creating tomorrow’s veterinarian leaders in the global health community.”
Dr. Callanan is a research and diagnostic boarded veterinary pathologist. He graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine at University College Dublin (UCD). Prior to being appointed Dean in 2016, Dr. Callanan has served as professor of veterinary pathology, director of postgraduate studies, and head of both the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Center for Integrative Mammalian Research.
AAVMC is a nonprofit membership organization working to protect and improve the health and welfare of animals, people and the environment around the world by advancing academic veterinary medicine. Members include 49 accredited veterinary medical colleges in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
