Apple Distinguished Schools are considered centers of leadership and educational excellence that demonstrate Apple’s vision for learning with technology.
RUSVM has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2023–2025. Apple Distinguished Schools are considered centers of leadership and educational excellence that demonstrate Apple’s vision for learning with technology.
RUSVM’s selection as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an innovator and a compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic achievement. Technology is an indispensable tool for achieving our shared academic goals, and our educators constantly strive to use or develop innovative tools of demonstrable efficacy. The integration of RUSVM-issued iPads, or “PawPads,” into our program provides a consistent backbone of technology that Rossies use from the first day of the DVM program. Our students use Apple’s platform for learning in and out of the classroom, taking didactic and practical assessments, recording progress in mastery of technical skills, and much more. Apps and iBooks developed in house or acquired from colleagues elsewhere augment theoretical learning and acquisition of skills. As the technology evolves, our innovative educators and dedicated learners find ever more effective tools to achieve our mission. The habits instilled during the DVM program provide a secure foundation for our graduates for lifelong learning using the same technical environment they have become accustomed to at RUSVM.
The Apple Distinguished School program is by invitation only for schools that meet the current program qualifications, including innovative use of the Apple platform and faculty proficiency with iPad or Mac. All teaching faculty are equipped with an iPad and Apple Pencils and attend a weeklong Apple Teacher Training Program where they learn more about how to use the iPad in the classroom and complete their Apple Teachers Certificate.
RUSVM first received the Apple Distinguished School designation in January 2020 and became the first veterinary school in North America to achieve this accomplishment. Our students, faculty, and staff should celebrate with great pride acknowledging that we are pioneers in veterinary medical education.
