Pathway to Practice

Located on the island of St. Kitts, Ross Vet’s AVMA-accredited DVM program offers hands-on experience with domestic, native terrestrial, and aquatic animals. Students work with real patients, train with modern technology, and explore the island’s thriving ecosystem of agriculture and wildlife. Through study and practical application, students learn skills that successfully prepare them for careers in veterinary medicine.

PRECLINICAL CURRICULUM

Ross Vet introduces key concepts and skills as early as the first semester that repeats throughout the preclinical curriculum with increased complexity and through a variety of applications. From day one, our students learn and develop communication and clinical skills through case-based, situational experiences, strengthening core competencies and equipping them to transition to their clinical year. Here’s a glimpse of what awaits students in our Anatomy, Clinical Skills, and Communications labs.

CLINICAL YEAR

The clinical year is when students begin to transition from student to doctor. After seven semesters of studying abroad in St. Kitts, students spend their final three semesters at one of Ross Vet’s AVMA-accredited affiliate schools in the US, Canada, Europe, or New Zealand. During their clinical year, students work alongside licensed clinicians where they examine, diagnose, and treat real patients in need of care. It’s an opportunity to apply their knowledge and further develop their skills to be practice-ready. Clinical students complete an intensive 45-week clinical experience inclusive of 20-weeks of core clinical experience and 25 weeks of electives, externships, and any additional requirements of their clinical site. Each clinical rotation varies in length, providing students with hands-on experience and opportunities to develop mastery of skills in multiple disciplines of veterinary medicine.

VET PREP PROGRAM

Preparing You For Your Future Education

Ross Vet offers a preparatory program for students who may need an alternate path to the DVM. Vet Prep is a one-semester bridge program designed to strengthen students’ knowledge in core academic areas. Vet Prep teaches foundational knowledge, skills, and terminology that will be used throughout the program. Students who pass Vet Prep are guaranteed a spot in the next first-semester class.

Next Generation of Researchers

Ross Vet is committed to research, benefiting from a high-quality research environment provided by our four Research Centers. Our Dual Degree DVM and Masters by Research offers students the opportunity to pursue a research interest through either an integrated or intercalated program approach.  Students will benefit from our high-quality research environment with an emphasis on emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases, conservation medicine, and ecosystem health.

We recognize that Ross Vet is a great place and offers a tuition rate that is mid-range among U.S. private and out-of-state public veterinary school tuition rates. Our students typically finance the cost of their veterinary school education by combining family resources, student loans from governmental and other agencies, and private sources.

Ross Vet partners with colleges and universities to ensure that we create a pathway for eligible students to move seamlessly from undergraduate studies to veterinary school. We partner closely with you to develop an articulation agreement tailored to your school’s program needs and requirements, creating opportunities for students to pursue their passion and earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
 
We offer a variety of benefits to partner schools that establish an articulation agreement with Ross Vet. Students who have completed their undergraduate junior year and have met the academic criteria established through our Pathways Program will receive benefits such as:
