Dr. Krzysztof Czaja is a Professor of Veterinary Gross Anatomy in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree in 1993 from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn, Poland, and completed a Ph.D. in Neuroanatomy at the University of Warmia and Mazury in 1997. He also holds a Doctor Habilitatus (Dr. Hab.), a postdoctoral qualification recognizing his continued academic and research excellence.
From 1997 to 2007, Dr. Czaja conducted postdoctoral research at several institutions, including the University of Warmia and Mazury, the Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg, Germany, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal Physiology Research Unit in Athens, Georgia. He joined the faculty at Washington State University in 2007, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. In 2015, he moved to the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he served for a decade before joining Ross University in 2025.
Dr. Czaja’s research focuses on the neuroanatomy of gut-brain communication, with particular emphasis on neural plasticity and the role of the microbiome in modulating brain function and behavior. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial boards of multiple scientific journals.
